On Sunday, the 1st of this month, I attended the Tiatro “KAZARI PUT KONNACHO… Maimcho vo Bailecho?” at Mapusa in the morning starting at 10.40. It was well attended by the capacity attendees befitting the name and fame of the writer & director Mario Menezes.

The story of the Tiatro is very well woven around the very common happenings in our families where there is a tussle between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law to woo the son/husband towards them. Because of this tussle there occurs a problem in an otherwise peaceful home. It is said that to be a son of the mother and husband of a wife simultaneously together is very difficult and this is what exactly shown in this Tiatro by Mario Menezes. The rest to know one must see this Tiatro which is being staged all over Goa.

Tari played his role of a son and husband extremely well with his meticulous dress code while Rosy Alvares as his wife in her usual manner did justice to her performance. Veteran Sabina played her role of a mother very well.

In the comedy side, seasoned comedian Jannet played her role extremely well thereby justifying her rank as one of the best comedians of Konkani Stage. She was ably assisted in her performance by the equally smart comedian Selvy. Comedian Sally also played his role well.

In the Side Show songs, Rosy Alvares rendered a nice solo. Marcus Vaz’s solo R.I.P. Congress was meaningful. Besides Xavier Gomes, Lawry Travasso and Francis de Tuem rendered their solos well. Mario Menezes duet with her daughter was worth listening and also worth emulating since it is educative. It contains priestly advice to a young girl.

After a long time I noticed a variety in the Side Show in a traditional manner comprising in addition to the solos, duets, trios and quartets. The director Mario Menezes deserves full credit for this revival. One of the Duets was rendered by Lawry Travasso & Rosy Alvares while one of the Trios was rendered by Mario Menezes and his colleagues and one of the quartets was rendered by Xavier-Marcus-Lawry & Tuem.

As a whole this Tiatro is worth watching as it conveys a good message. The musical score was good but the feelings introduced during the play was creating disturbance since it was a bit louder and an irritant to the ears of the audience.

Secondly, the Sound system was found defective especially for those seated on the first few Rows. This is not something new, it is in existence since a long time now and the directors in future must apply their mind on this very crucial factor. It is sound system that creates the image of the Tiatro.

Compared to the other Halls, the Sound system at Mapusa is not very good and this point must be brought to the notice of the Hall management by all the directors who stage their Tiatros at Mapusa.

Well done Mario Menezes and his troupe, well done.
