NEW TIATRO “UNDIR MHOJEA MAMA”.
Packed to capacity the A/c Hall at Kala Academy Panjim, yesterday the 9th of this month, the Tiatro lovers watched the new Tiatro “UNDIR MHOJEA MAMA” written and directed by the renowned playwright, Roseferns. In Goa in the Tiatro circle, there are a very few directors whose marketing capacity before the audience is such that their name itself is enough to woo the audience for their Tiatros and one such director is Roseferns. Because of his name and fame, a day in advance the tickets for this Show were sold. Currently, this is something great as it used to happen earlier for the Tiatros staged by those gigantic directors namely J.P. Souzalin, C. Alvares, M. Boyer, Remy J. Colaco, Prem Kumar and some others. All those gigantic directors of yesteryears lived up to the expectations of the audience but are the current great directors capable to fulfill the expectations of the audience? The audience alone can answer this question.
As scheduled, the Show started at 7.45 PM while outside it was raining since it was a rainy day. Since more Shows of this Tiatro are going to be staged elsewhere in Goa including the repeat Show in Panjim, I desist from giving full details of this Tiatro. Hence, the gist.
The title of the Tiatro UNDIR MHOJEA MAMA is used in figurative sense indicating a traitor – Rosario de Benaulim - in the family of Roseferns. This traitor happens to be one of the sons who created a plot to kill the bride of his brother – Tari – on her wedding day itself when she was going to the Church for her nuptial. While at home preparing to get set to go to the Church for his nuptial, the bridegroom gets the sad news of the sudden death of his bride and out of shock he goes mad.
Tari played the role of a mad man extremely well and he was assisted well by the charismatic artiste Antonette de Maina. Rosario de Benaulim does justice to his role and as his wife seasoned and attractive artiste Roma performed her role beautifully. As usual, the director Roseferns did his role very well with the normal clarity of the delivery of his terminology. Comedian Jannet also as usual played her part well along with comedian Selvy and others.
In the Side Show songs, Lawry Travasso, Marcus Vaz, Francis de Tuem, Rosario de Benaulim and Roma rendered their songs well. However, in the absence of Saby de Divar something looked missing since his political songs creating lot of ripples are admired by the audience.
As a whole and with the exception of a few minor flaws, the Show was well enacted and it is worth watching by those who missed it.
Congratulations Roseferns and your troupe.A. Veronica Fernandes,
