This is in reference to the excelent profile depicted in Goa's prestigious daily newspaper Herald dated 28.02.15, of the well-known Tiatrist Pradeep Naik. As a Tiatro Critique since a long time now, I have seen very few Tiatrists of the calibre of Pradeep Naik whose magnificent role of a father in Comedian Agostinho’s Tiatro “Pai” rightly got him the best Actor award. I don’t think anyone from the current Tiatrists circle would play the role of Pai as he played. Congratulations to the genius of Comedian Agostinho’s directorship for selecting Pradeep Naik appropriately for this role which carry all the burden to make this Tiatro as a heavyweight.
Pradeep Naik falls into the category of those majestic Tiatrists of yesteryears in action, body language, delivery and appropriate dress code. His beauty lies in the positioning of himself during his exchanges with his co-artistes. Being a Hindu, he has an advantage of acting in Marathi Nattoks where an artiste requires lot of training on the finer points of acting and precisely because of this almost all the Hindu Tiatrists are creating a very impressive impact of their presence on Konkani Stage.
The great Playwright and songster Alexinho de Candolim had unique distinction to introduce for the first time Hindu artistes in his Tiatros about 75 years back and who were responsible to elevate Alexinho de Candolim’s Tiatros to the pedestal. Some of them were Kanta Divkar, Kamal and Roglo, all graduated from Marathi Nattoks.
Besides, the contribution of the legendary Tiatrist Kamat de Assolna in the promotion of Tiatro was immense, so also of Mrs. Shalini who beautified Souzalin's Tiatros.
Currently, Konkani Tiatro Stage is beautifully dotted with a few excellent Hindu artistes, namely Anil Pednekar, Ullas Tari, Comedian Ambe, Shruti, Chitra and Sonia Sirsat at professional kevel. The contribution of Hindu Tiatrists in the promotion of Tiatros is laudable. I bow my head down to them and to their high caliber Tiatro art.
