As per the instruction from higher authority of the Goa Church, financial collection is to be done in all the Churches in Goa for the victims of Nepali Earthquake. It is a very good decision and everyone must contribute his mite in this collection. According to the information, special Box is to be kept in the Church only for this collection while the normal Church collection will proceed uninterrupted.
Since Nepali Earthquake victims’ needs are greater, I feel at least one full Sunday’s collection collected from the faithful should be allocated only for Nepal Earthquake funds. On this particular Sunday the normal Church collection should not be collected, instead the entire collection should be done for Nepal Earthquake victims only.
If Goa Church and its Bishop are so generous in support of Nepali victims then there must be a will to surrender one Sunday’s collection by the Church in favour of Nepali Earthquake victims. Multiple collections will be a burden on the faithful which the Goa Church must avoid.
Similarly, I am given to understand that money collection is underway for Baga Retreat House pathway to repair the damage done there. It is my suggestion that here too the Churches from the surrounding villages must allocate the Church collections at least of 4 Sundays for this purpose. On these 4 Sundays the surrounding Churches must surrender their collections in favour of Baga Retreat House. Charity begins at home and Church must give the lead in this direction.
