On fifth of this month, a friend of mine in Calangute fell sick suddenly at about 9.00 PM, bleeding thru his nose. Having no proper medical facility in that village, he was rushed to Candolim at one of the private hospitals, at about 10.00 PM but it was found closed on the main gate itself. After persistent calls to open the gate, one Nurse appeared and said that there is no resident doctor to see the patient. Then in that precarious condition my friend was rushed to another prominent private hospital in Candolim where the resident sister told the same answer advising further to take the patient to Candolim Health Center. Having gone there my friend was checked with a cursory glance and advised to take him to Mapusa district hospital or to Galaxy private hospital where he was given the necessary treatment by the resident doctor there and sent home.
It is surprising to know that being such a mighty village with a mighty name and fame Calangute where most of the tourists are flocking, there is no proper medical facility for a common man with a common sickness during the emergency at night time. And in Candolim which is the world renown village known all over the world as the village that gave birth to the world renown personality Abade Faria and Pintos revolutionaries, it is surprising to be aware that there is no proper doctors and no proper medical facilities in all the three hospitals there during the night time. If those hospitals do not have resident doctors round the clock then they should be called Clinics only.
In such a situation how Goa government will promote tourism in Goa and in costal belt areas without proper medical facilities? Because of such missing facilities responsible tourists are afraid to come to Goa for holidays. This is one of the reasons for diminishing the number of tourists in Goa and as a matter of fact it will go on diminishing more and more till tourism is collapsed in Goa though however much tourism minister may say it is boosting in Goa. Unless you give better facilities and safety for their life, tourists will never come to Goa in big number.
