VALENTINE’S DAY WITH  NATURE  AT BIG FOOT

Balloons and red merchandise crowd shop windows, beckoning the viewer to a Valentine’s feast, we forward text messages, exchange gifts, plan elaborate and unforgettable dates. Amidst all this fanfare, we tend to forget Mother Nature; she who surrounds us, constantly giving us her love. ‘Nature our Valentine’ was the theme for the day at the Spice Yard at Ancestral Goa, Big Foot in Lotoulim where Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a twist. On display were different plants and trees along with their medicinal values. Guests were asked to tie ribbons around trees to establish their love for nature. The ribbons signified the symbiotic bond that humankind shares with nature. Jc. Ram Kumar Menon, Executive Vice President for Zone XI Comprising Goa and Part of Maharashtra, Mr. Mohan Sathe Zone President Zone XI and Mrs Patricia Mendonca Secretary of JCI Salcete Coastal and Members of JCI Salcete Coastal who visited Ancestral Goa also took part in the celebration, he said that this drive was an innovative and motivating way to promote such a noble cause.

In a shocking incident today 18th February 2015,  two Shacks, on Lucky 7 and the other Paradise,  at Candolim Beach were demolished at about 2.00 pm by the demolishing squad from Tourism Department in co-operation with the local Police squad.  After completing the demolition, the local MLA Michael Lobo reached on the scene and stopped further demolition by intervening directly into this matter.
According to the demolition squad, the demolished Shacks are unlicensed ones but according to the Shack owners they already have licenses to run their Shacks and they even paid the license fees for three years.  In view of this the government should have refrained from touching these Shacks.
One of the demolished Shacks

Both the owners of these demolished Shacks are Goans and they are totally dejected the way the demolishing squads have ruthlessly did this operation in an inhuman manner with lightning speed.  Good that Michael Lobo reached on the scene in time otherwise with the same excuse some more Shacks  would have been demolished. If these Shacks are illegal, the action should have been taken in the beginning only.  Besides, advance notice for this demolition was imperative and not suddenly appearing on the scene

Another demolished Shack in total disorder

The European guests enjoying their food in these Shacks had to be evacuated and they were very much angry to see this type of harassment for the tourists.  Some of them have already declared their intention never to come back again to Goa where they say the government is Tourists Unfriendly.  Some of them have even vowed to spread the news of harassment for tourists to other Western tourists thru their network.

KONKANI ALBUM "SASNNACHEA SASNNAK".

As an admirer and ardent fan of the late Tiatrist Nelson Afonso, I must say Eureka – Eureka for getting an opportunity to listen to the Audio CD – Konkani Album - released by his son Tomy –  popularly known as Jr.Nelson.  It is a masterpiece of history, wisdom and boldness all woven in the songs rendered by Jr. Nelson individually and in Trio describing the greatness of his late father as a Tiatrist.  As an old timer Tiatro goer I am well aware of the events taken place then with regards to the stories mentioned in these songs.  I feel all the old timer Tiatro goers must not miss the opportunity to listen this CD.  My admiration goes to Jr. Nelson for inheriting the wisdom and boldness of his father in hitting hard to those who he felt done injustice to his father.

Front cover of CD
His late father Nelson Afonso had distinction of even instilling fear into the mind and heart of the mighty Dayananda Bandodcar and in fact Bandodcar was not afraid of 12 UG members in the Legislative Assembly but was afraid only of Nelson’s Trio.  This was because Nelson’s Trio could do from the Stage what 12 gigantic members of UG could not do in the Assembly.  That was the mighty intellectual power of Nelson’s Trio. Besides, the late Nelson Afonso was the innovative Tiatrist who had unique distinction of staging Tiatros first time on Moving Stage (Dolorosa Tiatro) and Sliding Stage as well.  His compositions were of very high grade as far as story, philosophy and decency are concerned.  His best political Trio was rendered immediately following the Opinion Poll in praise of Goan voters saying “XIKKO MARLO PANALA  ANI DOPKO DILO FULALA”. His best Tiatros were “NATIONALIST, ALMAS DO OUTRO MUNDO, GHORABO and BONDDOLIST. As a human being, Nelson Afonso was a very kind hearted and simple man without having artificial pride.
                                                             Back cover of CD

During the Portuguese rule in Goa many times I saw him singing duets with Anthony D’Souza hitting hard the then mighty Bamon Bhatkarshahi.  He was doing the role of a female since he had beautiful attractive looks. After the invasion of Goa by Bharat, thru his initiative a Tiatro troupe called “Young Stars of Goa” was formed somewhere in 1962/1963 and he was the de facto leader of this group which was just an institution by itself. This group lasted till 1975 when in an internal coup piloted by Conception and Anthony, splitted their mighty Trio keeping Nelson  out.  Shocked over the ingratitude towards him over his ouster by his other two companions whom he brought into limelight, Nelson rendered a beautiful song in 1976/77 saying what  good he did for their Trio.   Because of its superlative quality he was gifted everywhere he rendered this song with some amount of money by the members of the audience. This song one can listen thru the voice of his son in the Album “Sasnnachea Sasnnak” (last song).

In the history of Tiatro the first known Trio was formed by Kid Boxer-Young Menezes-Minguel Rod popularly known as Kid-Young-Rod and this one Trio was enough then to fill the “Mattou” or Hall to capacity.  But gradually because of the fame of this trio, somebody from the Tiatro fraternity became jealous and piloted the split of this trio and took Minguel Rod apart  leaving Kid and Young separately and forming a new quartet consisting of Minguel Rod-Jacinto Vaz- C. Alvares-Alexinho de Candolim.

Conception-Nelson-Anthony Trio was the second known popular Trio on Konkani Stage but more powerful than the first one.   This trio was singing songs mostly on the local politics of which type none of the current Tiatrists sing.  For this reason the memory of this most memorable Trio which served Goa and Goan causes so well  and was formed by Nelson himself,  will remain forever.

Coming back to the Album “Sasnnachea Sassnak” by Jr. Nelson which was released a year back, consists of 13 beautiful songs comprising Solos, Duets, Trios and Quartets rendered by Jr. Nelson, Com. Selvy, Sabina, Felcy, Cyril Ferrao, Sylvester Vaz, Tony de Ribanda, Saby de Divar, Salu de Loutolim, Joaquim Cabral and Jr. Conception & Jr. Souza Boy.

All the songs are very good but some are the best namely Jr. Nelson’s title song “Sasnnachea Sasnnak”, Trio “Tiatristancho Vavr” by Jr. Conception-Jr. Nelson-Jr. Souza Boy, Solo “Sothache Ulhas” by Jr. Nelson,  Solo “Pope Francis” by Felcy, a romantic solo “Tukach Ravtam” by melodious singer Cyril Ferrao and a comedy duet by Selvy and Sabina.  The songs all but last one were scripted by Jr. Nelson.  Musical score was beautifully provided by Jack Rebello & James Vaz.

It was nice on the part of Jr. Nelson to introduce first time in this Album the sons of the late Conception and Souza Boy and both sing well like their fathers.

WHEN THE LATE WILLIAM DE CURTORIM ASSAULTED BY CONGRESS SUPPORTERS.

$

According to the Press reports appeared in the print media, Congress Party in Goa condemned the move of the BJP government to introduce censorship on Tiatro.  Good decision but one must also know what the Congress supporters did to the late William de Curtorim a few years back when William de Curtorim rendered a solo in Candolim  criticizing the local Congress leader for his anti-Goan activities in the locality.

While on his way home after finishing the Tiatro along with his colleagues, a few supporters of Congress somewhere in Saligao forcibly stopped the Bus carrying the Tiatro troupe including poor William de Curtorim and physically and mercilessly assaulted William in the presence of all other troupe members.

By taking law into their hands the Congress supporters suppressed the freedom of speech of Tiatrist William de Curtorim.  Neither local Congress leader nor Luizin Faleiro condemned this brutality thereby indicating Congress is as worst as BJP in Goa.  They borth are two sides of the same coin.

DEMOLITION OF SHACKS AT CANDOLIM BEACH.

$

0

During Portuguese time the Candolim Beach was very clean having its natural beauty intact.  There was no hindrance of any Shacks there.  The first plain Shack was erected somewhere in 1968 by one local Joaquim Lopes where he was selling Tea, Soft Drink and some eatables like Sandwiches.  Besides this there was one Restaurant “Ceu Mar” built by Mr. Britto.  In this Restaurant  there were two  rooms for rent.

Gradually in seventies due to increase in tourist traffic, somewhere in 1976/77 about half a dozen Shacks were erected by the locals only when there was no Tourism Department nor CRZ formalities in existence because till such time commercialization of tourism as it is now was not in practice.

In Eighties due to heavy commercialization of tourism, Shacks on the entire Candolim Beach started mushrooming when terms like Tourism Dept. and CRZ became audible and they started exercising their control over all the activities on the Beach.  The people involved in running this Shack business were all locals coming from low income category.  There are about  100 Shacks spread all over the Candolim Beach owned by the locals only who earned their livelihood thru this business.

The recent spate of demolition of Shacks by the Tourism department on Candolim Beach has put the Shack owners out of their normal track thereby instilling fear into their minds and hearts because of the fear of demolition of their Shacks. Those whose official paper work is not in order are more afraid of losing their only mode of earning their sustenance. The recent demolition of Shacks in Candolim with the excuse that they are illegal has created a very bad image of the government of Goa in general and Tourism Dept. in particular. Tourism Dept. should have stopped these illegal Shacks in the beginning only instead of waiting for the penultimate month of the season ending and thereby killing the huge investment put into this business by the affected Shack owners.  Heaven would not fall if this demolition operation was stayed especially in view of the people involved in this business are all Goans.  What is the use of this government if it does not give preferential treatment to the locals?

The demolition operation of the Shacks done on Candolim Bbeach was very ruthless, the guest tourists mainly the Westerners were not even allowed to have their meals finished eating.  They were evicted from their dining tables as if they were Jews in Naziland. Their beach beds were cut when they were still lying on the beds.  It was totally an inhuman operation  devoid of humane attributes.  These tourists are very much hurt  by the way they were shabbily treated by the demolition squad, these tourists pumped in lot of money into Tourism industry of Goa thereby enriching Goan economy and since this is the case, they naturally deserve decent treatment without any fear of trouble for them.  They want to spend their time peacefully on the Beach without any disturbance, they are not bothered whether the Shacks where they eat and drink are legal or illegal, it is not their business to know this.  All they want is peaceful atmosphere to enjoy their stay in Goa. Some of these tourists have even decided to prevent their Western colleagues from coming to Goa thus giving a strong jolt to Tourism in Goa.  As it is, Tourism boom is waning in Goa and at this juncture government of Goa should do something to give a push forward to Tourism promotion even by eradicating the license system for erecting Shacks.

These tourists are coming to Goa regularly since a long time now and as such they have built a strong rapport between them and the Shack owners who are doing their best to give very good service and treatment to their guests.  But now, these tourists numbering over a thousand have vowed never to return back to Goa from next season to face the humiliation of demolition squad of Tourism department  and of local Police.  Some of these tourists are coming to Goa only to maintain their friendly link and rapport they created with these friendly Shack owners. They patronize Goan tourism only because of these poor Goan Shack owners who promote Goan tourism beautifully where the inputs of Tourism Department and its minister is almost a Big Zero.

MEET TO MARK KUWAIT LIBERATION DAY IN GOA.

This is a paid announcement from Herald dt. 22.2.15

On 26th of this month, Kuwait marks the 24th anniversary of its liberation from Iraqi invasion.  On 2nd August 1990 the dictator Saddam Hussein of Iraq invaded Kuwait by sending its mighty military that walked over Kuwait and kept Kuwait under its occupation for 7 long months till Kuwait finally was liberated by the coalition force of innumerable countries headed by USA.

One of the communities that very badly affected by this invasion of Kuwait was the Goan community having around 20,000 thousand members in Kuwait at the time of invasion, employed in different professions, a very few of them were engaged in business as well.  They were all earning good amount of money compared to what they would get in Goa.  Because of these earnings they built their empires - small, mediocre and big, because of their employment in Kuwait overwhelming majority of Kuwait Goans gave best of everything to their family members.  Though the majority of the Kuwait Goans are coming from low and middle class background yet because of Kuwaiti Dinars earning, they gave best of social standing for their family members gaining good respect in society.

Some of the palatial houses, bunglows, elite education for the children,  sophisticated life and enhanced social standing would not have been possible without employment of many of us in Kuwait. It was Kuwait that made many of us as somebody at least in life.   Kuwait is a rare place in the world where you are made as somebody out of nobody otherwise as a non-matriculate Goan you will never get an opportunity to work in the Bank in Goa but in Kuwait yes.  A car cleaner in Goa by showing his practical smartness in Kuwait can reach even to the position not only of a Foreman but also of a Service Advisor. By their remittance the economy of Goa was enhanced leading benefits to all Goans. By working in Kuwait an ordinary Goan became extra ordinary Goan.

We the direct beneficiaries of Kuwait employment are very grateful to Kuwait especially of its liberation on 26th February in 1991.  Because of its liberation most of us got our jobs back, our end service benefits for the period ending 1.8.1990 and many other things otherwise Saddam Hussein would made us desperate. Out of this gratitude we organize this meet on 26th of this month to further the goodwill already existing between Goans and Kuwait. There will be many Kuwait Goans on vacation now, they must not miss this opportunity to come for this meet. And  those whose families are based in Goa they must tell their family members to be present for this meet because they are greater beneficiaries of the goodwill between Goa and Kuwait.

The benefits of Kuwait’s liberation were enjoyed by others as well, like visiting Tiatrists, Priests, Nuns, Konkani promoters, recipients of our donations and other social activists and many more. They are all invited now to show their solidarity with us to Kuwait by attending the Meet on 26th of this month in Panjim at 10.00 AM, at Chamber of Commerce Hall, 3rd Floor., Opposite Azad Maidan.

KUWAIT LIBERATION DAY MARKED IN GOA.

Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center on Thursday, 26th of this month, marked the liberation day of Kuwait by holding a public meeting at Goa Chamber of Commerce Conference Hall, Panjim, Goa, attended by all segments of Goans, starting at 10.30 AM. The meet started with playing of National Anthems of Kuwait and India respectively followed by speeches delivered by Elvino Rodrigues, Manuel Fernandes, Fr. Gabriel Dias, Philip Dias and the Chief Guest Prof. Sergio Carvalho.  Peggy Pereira proposed the Vote of Thanks while the Chief of Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center,  A. Veronica Fernandes compeered the proceedings.

Speakers at the dais

In his speech, Elvino Rodrigues gave a brief history of the activities of G-K.S.C. in Goa and in Kuwait and how it gained goodwill for Goans in Kuwait. He especially stressed on the excellent work A. Veronica performed single handedly in the promotion of goodwill between Goans and Kuwaitis thru the activities of G-K.S.C. Fr. Gabriel Dias once a resident priest of Kuwait Church spoke very philosophically on the subject of Pains of invasion suffered by all those affected by the invasion.  Manuel Fernandes spoke on the subject of the benefits of our employment in Kuwait while Philip Dias spoke on the new association of Gulf Goan Returnees which is being formed under the initiative of A. Veronica Fernandes.  Preliminary work has already been done and shortly it will be registered with the appropriate authority and membership drive will be initiated to involve in it Gulf Goan returnees in Goa.
                                                           A section of the attendees

Prof Sergio Carvalho in his powerful speech which was listened with rapt attention by the audience, highlighted on the ill effects on Goa since the ouster of Portuguese from Goa. He lamented that in the name of liberation which is a misnomer while correct word is a Conquest as per the Supreme Court of India, all suppression is imposed on Goans by the conquerors even to the extent of denying special status to Goa which he felt Centre will never give.

A.     Veronica Fernandes said that on 19th December 1961 Goa was not liberated but invaded by the government of India. He said the liberation of Kuwait is totally different from Goan liberation where we have no true freedom to decide our affairs.  He said the first Goan to fight for Goa’s liberation were Pintos from Candolim thru the Pintos Revolt initiated by the Catholic Priests.

It was great to see two Kuwait Goans, namely Mario Rebello and Raymond  D’Sa coming from Kuwait to attend this meeting while many other Goan visitors from Kuwait were seen drinking in the Bars and Tavernas like Bebdes.  Many of the ex Kuwait Goans who tasted Chicken and Lobsters only after going to Kuwait like born “Beiman” refrained from attending this Meet.  Still others who made money from Kuwait and acquired benefits from Kuwait refused to attend to this meeting when they gained so much from Kuwait employment.  On top of it they claim to be Christians when they fail to perform Christian principles. Overwhelming majority of Kuwait Goans are such rubbish Beiman, many of them  got girls to marry only because of their employment in Kuwait. If it was not for Kuwait many of us would rot in Goa unwanted.

As usual, the real Beiman Padris and Madris even after receiving so much of benefits from Kuwait failed to show their faces in the meeting hall. These Beiman Padris and Madris are possessed by the Devils for this reason they acted as traitors to Kuwait benefits.

It was a pity that none from the Tiatro circle attended this meet, especially from among those who worked and earned so much in Kuwait. And also those who visited Kuwait and gained so much from Kuwait.

On Friday, 27th of last month, I attended the function organized by Tiatro Academy of Goa, at Ravindra Bhuvan, Margao,  at 4.30 PM to mark the birthdays of the late Tiatrists Kid Boxer, Rom Tony, Mohana and Sesa Pai (Star of Curtorim)

Seen lonely Prince Jacob President of TAG at the dais

Michael Jude Gracias spoke on the life of all the four artistes and their contributions in the promotion of Tiatros.

 M.Jude Gracias delivering his speech

The function looked lifeless as there was no punch in the details given by the speaker borrowed from the available written record.  However, there are Tiatrists and others too among us who are equipped with more information than what is on record.  In view of this the organizers should have sought the help of more knowledgeable persons with first hand information instead of relying on one person only to speak on all the four.

Felcy with her sisters at the Mike

Day by day the quality of this function is diminishing; even at the dais it looks empty.  Since this function is very good the organizers must make it more interesting by enhancing its quality.  Even audience wise it looked dull. If the organizers feel they are unable to infuse some extra oxygen then they should gracefully abdicate their chairs in favour of those who are better.

From the audience, Felcy spoke something more on her father Rom Tony while Jessy Dias on Mohana and Sesa Pai. Their informations sounded more interesting because it was from primary source.
Daughter of Sesa Pai, Lydia was presented with the Memento by the TAG.

A. Veronica addressing the Meet

Last month on 26th, we under Goa-Kuwait Solidarity Center celebrated the liberation day of Kuwait by holding a public meeting in Panjim at the Chamber of Commerce Hall.  The meet was attended by only 70 persons instead of 700 or 7000 and from these 70 persons, half the number from non-Kuwait returnees circle.  Since I returned from Kuwait last year, I am organizing this function to show our gratitude to Kuwait from where we earned our livelihood and established ourselves comfortably financially.

Fr. Gabriel Dias seen speaking

Some people especially ex Kuwaitkars in Goa are questioning my prerogative to hold these Meetings as if I am committing a sin by doing so.  As a matter of fact to organize these Meets I am alone spending thousands of Rupees from my own pocket, I am not asking any financial help from anyone nor from any of the current Kuwitcars or Kuwait returnees.

Manuel Fernandes seen speaking

With the intention of sharing even a small portion of expenditure, none even asking me whether any help is needed though they are boasting of their financial empire which they built only because of their employment in Kuwait otherwise many of them would live like paupers.

Prof. Sergio Carvalho

There are thousands of Goans in Kuwait and they are the direct beneficiaries of the goodwill of Kuwaitis in Kuwait of our Meetings in Goa on 26th February.  Even they are not contributing anything but some of them are talking against holding these meetings.

Peggy Pereira proposing Vote of Thanks

Without Kuwait they would be nothing in life. No Indian community is organizing such Meets in India except Goan community for this reason there is more goodwill generated for Goans in Kuwait. Neither any nationality anywhere in the World.

Elvino Rodrigues seen speaking

What would be the future of overwhelming majority of Kuwait Goans, current and returnees, if it was not for their employment in Kuwait?  They had no  bright future for this reason they should be grateful to Kuwait.  What Goa and India could not provide them, the country Kuwait provided them.

Logo of G-K.S.C.

Mrs. Fatima presenting Bouquet to chief guest

That does not mean in Kuwait Heavenly Mannas are falling for us, that does not mean in Kuwait we are getting easy money, no, we are working very hard with topmost sacrifices with lot of pains and sufferings, with lot of humiliations and insults, yet we are surviving and doing well.  For this reason I am grateful to Kuwait though I too suffered a lot in Kuwait like many and that does not deter me from accepting the truth that if today what I am, it is only because of Kuwait.

Observing silence

But do our people realize this truth?  Majority of them ”NO”. They are “Beiman” of first grade because they are coming from third rate character without disciplined family background and lacking in moral character. It is a pity to see that the character of these Kuwait Goans present and ex is so bankrupt. There are no greater selfish people in the world as ex and current Kuwait Goans, of course with the exception a few.

A section of the crowd attending the Meet.

Even when we organized the public rallies in Panjim following the invasion of Kuwait in 1990, very few people attended this rally because the remaining Kuwait returnees thought it was useless to participate in that rally because Kuwait was already annexed to Iraq. But when we organised the second rally immediately following the liberation of Kuwait overwhelming majority of Kuwait returnees took part in this rally because of selfish motto that is, to return to Kuwait.

PRADEEP NAIK, A HUGE CONTRIBUTOR TO TIATRO.

$

This is in reference to the excelent profile depicted in Goa's prestigious daily newspaper Herald dated 28.02.15, of the well-known Tiatrist Pradeep Naik. As a Tiatro Critique since a long time now, I have seen very few Tiatrists of the calibre of Pradeep Naik whose magnificent role of a father in Comedian Agostinho’s Tiatro “Pai” rightly got him the best Actor award. I don’t think anyone from the current Tiatrists circle would play the role of Pai as he played. Congratulations to the genius of Comedian Agostinho’s directorship for selecting Pradeep Naik appropriately for this role which carry all the burden to  make this Tiatro as a heavyweight.

Pradeep Naik falls into the category of those majestic Tiatrists of yesteryears in action, body language, delivery and appropriate dress code. His beauty lies in the positioning of himself during his exchanges with his co-artistes. Being a Hindu, he has an advantage of acting in Marathi Nattoks where an artiste requires lot of training on the finer points of acting and precisely because of this almost all the Hindu Tiatrists are creating a very impressive impact of their presence on Konkani Stage.
The great Playwright and songster Alexinho de Candolim had unique distinction to introduce for the first time Hindu artistes in his Tiatros about 75 years back and who were responsible to elevate Alexinho de Candolim’s Tiatros to the pedestal.  Some of them were Kanta Divkar, Kamal and Roglo,  all graduated from Marathi Nattoks.

Besides, the contribution of the legendary Tiatrist Kamat de Assolna in the promotion of Tiatro was immense, so also of Mrs. Shalini who beautified Souzalin's Tiatros.

Currently, Konkani Tiatro Stage is beautifully dotted with a few excellent Hindu artistes, namely Anil Pednekar, Ullas Tari, Comedian Ambe, Shruti, Chitra and Sonia Sirsat at professional kevel. The contribution of Hindu Tiatrists in the promotion of Tiatros is laudable. I bow my head down to them and to their high caliber Tiatro art.

ZILLA PARISHAD ELECTION.

$

This is in reference to the coming Zilla Parishad election and the moves by the interested persons and political parties to get their candidates elected. According to my limited knowledge, the Zilla Parishad is powerless in exercising its power on anything concretely and yet there is so much of clamouring on the part of the candidates to get elected.  Is it a prestigious issue to be a member of powerless Zilla Parishad?

In my Calangute constituency as per the available report, selection of the candidates has been finalized.  One of them is by BJP the party that is vomiting its venom on minorities in general and Christians in particular. It is a time now for overwhelming majority of Calangute constituents belonging to minority community to question the BJP why it is letting loose its hatred towards Christians when Christians in the last election have already indicated their affiliation to BJP.  If the same momentum is maintained in favour of BJP in the coming ZP election as it was done last time, then I am sure BJP will double its fury against Christians to show its originality of ingratitude.  This has to be stopped by curtailing the march of BJP any further for BJP to put an end to its anti-Christian march.  The salvo should be fired for this ZP election against BJP to send an advance warning to BJP to take care of its prospects in 2017. I can now only make my own prophecy and rightly predict that 2012 will never be repeated for BJP anymore. For BJP, 2012 is R.I.P.

Congress as reported in the media is contesting this ZP election thru remote control by fielding a lightweight entity in the constituency, he must tell the constituents why they should vote for him and what was his contribution in the development of the constituency, leave aside his village. Though he is backed by his local Panchayat yet he must know that his Congress led Panchayat has made mess of his village because of this his local Congress boss was defeated in the last 2012 election. His Panchayat team headed by the local leader is now going around in his village begging for votes for their candidate.  Voters are asking a question to the candidate: “Are you going to be revengeful and vindictive just as your boss and Congress leader, if you are elected?”

The third candidate is backed by Calangute Panchayat.  Now my question to all of them: What will they do once elected in their constituency and how? What is their manifestoes and power to proceed further?  Who are their financiers and how will they recover the money they spend for their elections? What is their advice to the voters who will refuse to go to the voting Booths thinking that it is useless to vote for them because ZP is a powerless impotent body.

BBC DOCUMENTARY - DAUGHTER OF INDIA - NIRBHAYA.

$

India has banned this documentary Film done by the BBC on the rape of young Indian girl and NOT PAKISTANI GIRL, in December two years back. This ban is confined only to India and not outside India because Indian jurisdiction is applicable only in India and not to the land of BBC and as such BBC and other sovereign countries are free to act the way they want. And BBC land has already acted the way it wanted by telecasting this film from where the interested persons thru U-Tube  distributed everywhere.  I saw it last night on 5thmidnight and I found nothing wrong in it nor derogatory nor anti-Indian.  On the contrary I found it very informative and educative that gives a very good lesson for the would be rape victims.

According to the Documentary, the victim girl was so ferociously resisted this rape that she even slapped one of the accused to prevent him from touching her body that angered the rapists more.  While in the beginning immediately after entering the Bus, one of the accused asked the victim girl why she is so late and that too with the boy.  Infuriated by this poser, the girl  answered bluntly that insulted the accused.  This was the flashpoint on the part of the accused to take the law into their own hands violently.

The lesson to learn here is: “never to antagonize your perpetrator" or rapist because he is possessed by animal power which by all means he will apply to put you into submission even by maiming your body or killing you.  For this reason Gorge Bernard Shaw remarked wittily thus, “When rape is unavoidable, the girl should just lie down and enjoy”. If there is resistance then there is no surety of avoiding neither rape nor physical assault.

There was uproar in the Parliament in India by the ruling party and more by the Home Minister against this Documentary citing an excuse that it is defaming India’s  image abroad. But in reality, the image of India is already destroyed beyond repairs by the nonsensical decisions taken by the BJP government, namely harassment for minorities especially for Christians, Ghar Wapsi, Non-Fulfillment of promises made before the last general election by Modi, break-down of Law and Order etc.  In the eyes of foreigners the image of India is already tarnished for this reason during his last visit to India, president Obama rapped Indian gontvernment for its harassment for minorities, meaning Christians because when Christians are hurt naturally the West is hurt because West is dominated by the Christians.  That has finally made Modi to assure the minorities in general  and Christians in particular all the protection of the government.

The value of India in the eyes of foreigners one comes to know when an Indian travelling abroad hands over his Passport to the Emigration officer who in many cases accepts it with disdain and ugly looks and not thru the telecast of BBC Documentary.  By suppressing the release of BBC Documentary in India, the government of India suppressed the democratic rights of its citizens.  This is a murder of Democracy of the type of Emergency rule of Indira Gandhi.  I cannot accept the fact that BJP government can stoop to so low to ban this film just as Congress government banned the “Satanic Verses” of Sulman Rushdie.  BJP government is acting worse than Congress.  For this reason, all the freedom loving Indians must start the movement to unseat BJP governments not only at the Centre but even in the States including Goa.  Seeing all these suppressions, I feel Emergency Rule is on the way.

Its a great article on goa - Kuwait solidarity meet held in Panjim on 26.02.15 to mark the liberation day of Kuwait. The facts cannot be denied,  I was surprised to know that you alone are spending your own money to hold these meetings.  What about others who are living retired life in Goa and those who are still making money in Kuwait?  Are they not grateful to Kuwaiti?  It looks you are the lone voice of Kuwait Goans.

      keep up the good work.

      A. VERONICA COMMENTS: Thank you Jerry for your good words.  If it was not for me, there would never be Solidarity with Kuwait movement that fetched Kuwait Goans lot of dividends and yet they are shamelessly "BEIMAN".  It is Kuwait that made them something in life.  They talk big and act big but otherwise they are born small and would remain small only if it was not for their employment in Kuwait. In my own village majority of Kuwait Goans ex and current are like Ladrus and Pedrus having no proper home discipline to indicate their gratitude to the country from where they earned so much.  I feel ashamed of their "Ghaum-bhaupon".

Some of the ex and current Kuwait Goans expect me to approach them for help. I am not a beggar to do that and they are not sucking breasts of their mothers to be ignorant to know what it costs to organize such events. One cannot expect something worthwhile from people coming from hoi-polloi class which is of majority of Kuwait Goans.

GOA-KUWAIT SOLIDARITY MEET & KUWAIT GOANS.

With the intention of sharing even a small portion of expenditure, none even asking me whether any help is needed though they are boasting of their financial empire which they built only because of their employment in Kuwait otherwise many of them would live like paupers.

What would be the future of overwhelming majority of Kuwait Goans, current and returnees, if it was not for their employment in Kuwait?  They had no  bright future for this reason they should be grateful to Kuwait.  What Goa and India could not provide them, the country Kuwait provided them.

"GHAR WAPSI", BJP AND ITS DADAGIRI.

BJP came to power like slaves and now they want to be the masters of Indians who have not given their mandate to BJP to act like masters. Introducing legislations and moves which were not in their election manifesto is an act of Hitlerism and not of democratically elected government. The current move of BJP to bring back the converted people to Hinduism is an act of “Dadagiri”.  People in India have not voted BJP to power to see this type of Dadagiri.

I am a Christian and proud to be so.  My ancestors most probably were Hindus but I feel those who converted my ancestors to Christianity deserve appreciation.  Most of the Hindus converted to Christianity were of lower strata of the Hindu society that treated them very shabbily.  Caste wise their status was low because of this status they were denied many privileges in Hinduism.  They were as Hindus not accepted as full fledged human beings in Hinduism but once in Christian fold they were allotted all the previlleges of egalitarian Christianity though in certain Christian pockets some of them on silly grounds against Christian doctrine were denied full Christian rights.

Because of the discriminatory Hindu system,  Ambedkar revolted against caste oriented Hinduism and along with lakhs of his followers jumped into egalitarian Buddhism.  Because of caste based discriminatory system in Hinduism a huge number of Nadar Christians  got converted to Christianity from caste oriented Hinduism that treated them like slaves. Because of the equality and brotherhood principle, Christians are more homogenous entity while Hindus are more devided among them.  Because of this equality in Christianity the converted Christians are treated as true human beings mainly in their religious places and in society as well.  The tag of lowliness because of their low caste status is eradicated from their collar once the low caste Hindus are converted. In view of this, I don’t think any converted Christian especially the low caste will ever think to return spontaneously to his originality unless he is tricked with false promises or coerced into submission.

Those who are organizing “Ghar Wapsi” must tell what caste status they will allot to the returnees to originality or re-convertees.  Ghar Wapsi system indicates the fear in fanatic Hindus, they are afraid that their brand of Hinduism is dwindling in India.  Even Mahatma Gandhi indicated this fear in him when he said “If Christianity or Islam uprooted from Inndia, it will still flourish elsewhere but if Hinduism is uprooted from India, it will disappear from this planet”.  But to protect it Gandhiji never prescribed the Ghar Wapsi solution as fanatic BJP men are prescribing. If centuries back my ancestors were converted to Christianity I am not to be blamed for this conversion but I am very comfortable in Christianity.  And if I am allowed to say something more, Christianity is the only solution to end the religious discrimination existing in some religions.

BJP MANIFESTO FOR ZILLA ELECTION IN CALANGUTE.

Out of the main three contenders for the forthcoming Zilla Parishad election in Calangute constituency, so far only one contender, young and energetic Shawn Michael of BJP has declared his Election Manifesto as indicated here below.

The other two main contenders so far have not disclosed in writing their Manifestoes and in the absence of their manifestoes voters are not aware of what they will do the next once they are elected, they have not disclosed in writing why voters should elect them.  One of these two contenders is backed by the Candolim Congress leader who is known to be the godfather general of “Ghanttis – Lamanis & Migrants” whose colony he has established in Candolim as vote bank for him.  Voters from Candolim villalge must keep a distance from such people because they are all out to finish Goa by supporting non-Goans. In this move  voters must reject this candidate who is backed by the anti-Goan Congress leader. Luizin Faleiro and other Congress leaders from Goa must get the message clear and loud.

Coming back to Shawn Martins, he is a young and well educated man from Kobravado, Calangute, a self employed social worker, a great lover of sports and promoter of soccer.  He is very active in different type of activities in his locality gaining name and fame for him. A man with charismatic smile on his face he is very much known figure in his locality.

His manifesto sounds well but what is required now from him is his mind on the communalism spread by the BJP.  How he can influence the top brass of BJP in Goa and in Delhi to put an end to BJP’s anti-minorities moves especially anti-Christian activities.  There is no peace for Christians in Goa since BJP came to power in the last election.  Will Shawn Martins show his courage and wisdom to raise this topic with his bosses in Goa and Delhi to assure Goan Christians peaceful sleep? Goan Christians are having sleepless nights because there is no strong trust now between BJP and Christians.  It looks BJP is all out to diminish Christian influence in Goa by introducing no-beef policy, Ghar Wapsi and other such policies.

      GHANTTIS AGAINST LOCALS IN CANDOLIM.

      $

      0

In Candolim there is one small Vaddo touching the Hill which if you cross on foot you can easily reach to Saligao Seminary.  In this Vaddo till a few years back there were hardly 30 houses and as such it was thinly populated.  Major portion of the land in Araddy was deserted.  Since the shooting up of land prices in Candolim as elsewhere in Goa due to the heavy influx of non-Goans, one deserted and isolated area touching the hill in Araddy was sold in pieces by the local landlords to the Migrants who are named as “Ghanttis and Lamanis”.  With the blessing of the local Congress led Panchayat under  the control of the local Congress leader, the new settlers were allowed to construct their houses there even without licenses or official authorization thus making these migrants to remain at the mercy of the local Congress leader.  This Congress leader including local Panchayat body even allotted these migrants Election Cards without even verifying the fact that they have defranchised themselves in their States from  where they came. The number of these migrants is swelled now making them a force to reckon with in physical as well as financial might. Though this place is commonly called by the locals as Ghanttianchi Araddy yet it is named as New Araddy.

A week back during the Holi Festival, there was a physical clash between a few local boys and these Ghanttis for reason still unknown properly though the local boys are blamed by some for this physical clash in which the local boys were not only outnumbered numerically but heavily assaulted by the Ghanttis.  According to one source even the bones of one local boy were broken sending him to the hospital.

Immediately, the matter as informed, reached to the local Congress High Command in Candolim and the local Congress leader along with some Panch Members including the Sarpanch came to the scene to discuss this matter and as some said, to support the Ghanttis.  During the course of discussion and meeting with the Ghanttis, the local Congress leader as per the available information, told the Ghanttis  there  that “Next time if such incident repeats, take the law into your own hands and  break the bones of the locals”.  And as per another version, the local Sarpanch made a statement saying “Since these Ghanttis are my voters, I have to support them”.

Is it right on the part of the local Congress leader to encourage the Ghanttis to take the law into their hands even though the local boys may be wrong?  There is law enforcing authority to decide but it is wrong on the part of local Congress leader to make such a brute statement to tell the Ghanttis to break the bones of the locals. I hope Luizin Faleiro and other Goan Congress leaders and also other leaders of Goa fighting for justice will take note of this cruel statement of local Congress leader and also of the local Sarpanch.

Zilla Parishad election is very close now and people in the locality are deeply hurt by this harsh statement of the local Congress leader who is supporting one candidate in this election.  Overwhelming majority of locals are annoyed at this statement and they want to defeat this candidate in the coming election.  I think this will be a right course of action for the locals.  The local Congress leader is relying too much on the votes  of Ghanttis to destroy Goans. For this reason not only locals from Candolim but also from other villages volunteered to join hands to defeat the candidate backed by the local Congress leader who is also known as Godfather general of Ghanttis in Candolim. This election in Candolim will be fought on the basis of locals and Ghanttis led by the local Congress leader.

According to the latest information, the situation in Araddy is very fluid and these Ghanttis like “Khapris” during Portugues rule are ready to do anything to please their Godfather general.  In view of this, if any untoward incident takes place for any local who is opposing the dadagiri of Ghanttis then the only person  should be held responsible for this will be none other than the Godfather general of the Ghanttis who advised the Ghanttis to break the bones and limbs of the locals.
Social activists and Church leaders must not keep their silence on this topic, they must raise their voices in unison to stop the language of brutes and of Goondas.

On 12th of this month, Thursday, at 10.00 AM, I saw the Tiatro “Sandlelim Fulam” written and directed by Lawry Travasso, at Kala Academy Hall, Panjim, attended by the capacity crowd. This was the unique record created by Lawry Travasso in the recent history by staging this Tiatro on odd day of the week.  This indicates the good image the director has created of his talent into the minds of the Tiatro goers.  It also indicates the courage of the director in holding this Tiatro on the odd day of the week.

Like Portuguez poet Camoes, Lawry introduced innumerable proverbs and for that matter all beautiful proverbs in this Tiatro, also like the late Prem Kumar used to do to beautify his Tiatros.
      Rosy Alvares singing her solo

The story pays great tributes to the priests for their enormous sacrificial work in the service of GOD and humanity.  The small role of an old aged neglected priest played so appropriately by Lawry Travasso himself is worth admiring.  The major and main role of a priest played by Tari deserved highest compliments even though he is a Hindu by religion.  His way of walking, talking,  Cassock wearing were superb.  By playing this role so perfectly well he won the hearts of the entire audience.

Willy in his character role of the PA of MLA once again proved that he is capable of playing any given role with utmost perfection while Mario Menezes dazzled the audience by playing the role of corrupt MLA.
A scene: All 3 comedians seen

Lovely Antonette de Maina the main attraction of the Konkani Stage currently,  played her roles as a young girl first and later on as a Nun very well.  As a young girl she charmed the  audience with her charming dress code. While seasoned Rosy Alvares played her role as an aged mother very well bringing tears not only in her eyes but even in the eyes of the audience.  The sorrowful Canto she rendered was just a class by itself not only in the appropriate words but in the attractive serene delivery as well.
      A quarter seen singing

The comedy part was handled well by the three ace comedians, namely John D’Silva, Bryan and Richard.  The last named with his flexible body moves and acrobatic actions stole more show.  His comedy is very impressive and he wins the hearts of the audience.
      Ant. de Maina & Mario

In the side show songs many of the songs were based on religion and the persecution Christians are facing currently under the BJP rule.  Peter de Arambol’s both the solos were very well rendered with perfect clarity while both the solos of Lawry Travasso were well accepted by the audience.  The quarter of Francis de Tuem-Xavier Gomes-Marcus Vaz-Lawry Travasso was hugely applauded by the audience while Rosy Alvares rendered her solo beautifully.  The duet of Tony de Ribandar and Antontte de Maina brought an extra flavour to the side show songs. Marcus Vaz, Xavier Gomes and Francis de Tuem rendered their solos well while the comedy duo of Bryan and Richard was fabulously applauded by the audience.

      BASTARDISATION OF GOAN POLITICS.

      $

      0

Bastaradisation of Goan politics started by the Goan Bastard politicians is now reached to its peak and from this peak to retrieve it back to its normalcy is very difficult unless all the legitimate Goans of legitimate Goan parents work very hard fearlessly to defeat all the candidates backed by the Bastard leaders in the coming Zilla Parishad election.  These bloody politicians established in their respective constituencies especial settlements of “Ghanttis” as Vote Banks for them by providing them all the facilities even to the extent by denying many of these facilities to the locals.  Numerically Ghanttis are strong and as such their votes are more important for their bloody leaders to get themselves elected, these leaders they don’t care much for Goan voters who are more  concentrating on their own politics based on their local principles and ideologies.

Thus, those who are getting the votes of Ghanttis are getting elected.  These Ghanttis and Migrants are not interested on Goan issues, they are interested on their own survival and money making ventures.  Thus, the bloody Goan leaders are getting elected and ruining our beloved Goa.

There are non-Goan settlements came up in this way in many parts of Goa including in Margao, Dabolim, Ponda, Taleigao, Vasco and Candolim thru the blessing of the local leaders mainly the Congress leaders.  In my village there is one Vaddo called new Araddy where at certain spot it was converted into a colony of Ghanttis who are conferred with naturalized citizenships of Candolim by the Congress leaders thereby giving these Ghanttis voting rights also but nobody knows whether they have cancelled their voting rights in the places and States from where they came to settle down in Candolim.

These Ghanttis are acting like “Dadas” with the support of their anti-Goan  leader who is a Congressman and in his latest “hate locals” speech in Konkani to these Ghanttis,  he told them “to beat the locals who clash with you so badly to the extent that even break their bones and maim their bodies”.  Then the same Congress leader who is a shame on Congress Party which was promoted and developed by Ghandiji who preached the gospel of non-violence, tells the Ghanttis “do not come to me without implementing my command otherwise I will beat you.  You don’t have to worry;  I have spoken to the Police as well.  I will take care of you because I need your votes for my candidate who is contesting the coming Zilla Parishad election”.  Incidentally,, the candidate is keeping his silence thereby giving an impression that he is fully supporting violence.  In view of this how the voters will elect him?  Voters do not want violent candidates but they want decent and civilized candidates.

Now I have my question, if this Congress leader is so bad and so violent, how the hell Luizinho Faleiro flirting with him thereby giving a very ugly image of Congress?  Will Luizin Faleiro revive the hopes of Congress Party in Goa as a whole and in Calangute constituency in particular with the violent Congress leader? It looks Congress in Calangute constituency coming to a stage of R.I.P. The local Church leaders must know this fact well and put some Christian sense into the head of this violent Congress leader who is seen too much aligning with the Church leaders by offering the Church activities with financial doles.

The local ruling Panchayat body owing its allegiance to this Congress leader must also take some blame on them for supporting blindly this violent Congress leader.  One of the Panch members of the ruling segment is seen in the Church daily and even receiving holy communion but incidentally and regretfully supporting blindly every act illegal and violent of this Congress leader. Externally these monsters are showing that they are the followers of Jesus Christ but internally they are the followers of the Lucifer.

In the coming election of Zilla Parishad the genuine Goans who are the real sons and real daughters of their real Goan fathers must unite not to vote for the candidate backed by the Candolim Congress leader who is supporting the non-Goan Ghanttis to beat, to maime and to finish the locals.  It is time now for the locals to finish the Congress leader in Candolim by finishing his candidate in the coming Zilla Parishad election otherwise this same Congress leader who as an anti-Goan preacher of violence will finish not only local Goans but also other Goans from other parts of Goa.

It is a challenge to Luizin Faleiro and the entire Congress body in Goa to investigate this matter thoroughly if Congress revival is to take place.  I was a Congressman much before the local Congress leader could come into Congress fold and as a Congressman I oppose the association of this Candolim Congress leader in the Congress fold with violence.

Separately, I am communicating this to Congress High Command in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi as well to inform them that Congress Party affairs in Goa are gone into the hands of violent leaders  and “goondas”.
