TIATRO “APLEM LIPOIAT ANI DUSREACHEM DHUITAT”.

On third of this month, in Candolim, at 8.15 PM instead of at 7.30 PM, I saw this Tiatro written and directed by Com. Agostinho.  I can rightly say this is one of the best Tiatros of this season.  The script is highly political where piercing criticism of the current politicians is done openly in a statesman like manner. The political part displayed in this Tiatro is like that of political scientist with intellectual meaning.  Among our current Tiatrists only Com. Agostinho is capable to script such Tiatros because he is very well versed in Goan politics having super courage to say openly what is right is right and wrong is wrong.

In Kuwait we brought Com. Agostinho on one occasion to participate in our Tiatro whence he stayed at my place and during my interaction with him I found him very bold and very keen in knowing and reading about Goan politics. Like him I never noticed any other Tiatrist who stayed at my place, so keen and  so eager to read Goan Daily as well as the local.  He was very hungry for knowledge. Besides, he is very courageous and to maintain his stand he will not bend his principle.  This too he indicated in this Tiatro. Once he was brought to Kuwait by another group whose leader told him not to wish me in Kuwait.  As a direct slap, he not only hugged me but also visited me at my place.

In this Tiatro we see strong criticism of those Tiatrists who sing “Zupatti” songs against their own Tiatrists colleagues.   This is necessitated due to the recent mudslinging  by some Tiatrists against one another thereby washing their dirty linen on the public platform.  Com. Agostinho boldly questions these Tiatrists “how can you criticize others when you yourselves are full of criticism?”  Then he goes on asking further these same Tiatrists thus: “are you not keeping concubines when you point out to others for having the same?  When you are guilty of innumerable sins, why you point out to one sin of your colleague?” The story though woven into many such episodes which one must see by watching this Tiatro going all over Goa now, concludes with the statement “APLEACHEM LIPOITAT – DUSREACHEM DHUITAT”.

Since the inception of the Tiatro, Zupatti is become an inherent part of Tiatro especially in the Side Show songs. During those early days, Zupattis were the major attraction of the Tiatros and for this reason once Joao Agostinho Fernades – Pai Tiatrist while lamenting on this dirt called such Zupatti singer Tiatrists as “Rostad”.  During those days, the ace Tiatrists like Minguel Rod, Alexinho de Candolim, Jacinto Vaz, C. Alvares, Kid Boxer and Young Menezes were deeply involved in singing Zupattis to their own Tiatrist colleagues and these Zupattis were in high demand.  People used to come to listen to these Zupattis from distant places. There was no Censor for these Zupattis, Censor was applied only when there was criticism of government.

The first known Trio of Konkani Stage was formed by Kid-Young-Rod which was very powerful because all three were heavyweight.  Somebody became jealous of the fame of this trio and thru devilish idea he splitted this trio by taking away main pillar Minguel Rod from this trio and forming  a new Quarter comprising Alexinho de Candolim-Minguel Rod-C.Alvares-Jacinto Vaz. This quarter published its photo in the Newspaper in Bombay,  all four holding their hands tight.  Then as confrontation, Young Menezes a master Zupaptti composer sang a very piercing Zupatti which goes thus:

KHANKEN HATH GHALUN BHONVLOI KUTTAEKARA (Referring to Minguel Rod)
VAKOR HADDLA KHADD KADDUNK CANDOIKARA (Referring to Alexinho de Canolim).

Then Young Menezes saw Alvares making love with his girlfriend and to put him him into shame, he sang another Zupatti saying:

DEKLO RE DEKLO, DEKLO, MAKAM POLOUN OKLEK GHEUN PULA KHUXIK Liplo.

Then the splitted trio of Kid-Young-Rod became one again when Minguel Rod rejoined the trio.  That very moment Young Menezes composed a Zupatti trio against other three earlier colleagues of Minguel Rod,  this trio they all three sang thus:

NESSON DUSREACHEM KAPODD, HATH PAEM KAMRUN BOSLEAT MAKODD

POROT EKTTAIM ZALET MHONON KID, YOUNG ANI ROD.

Coming back to Agostinho’s Tiatro, Pradeep played a superb role of a minister while Benny de Aldona of his PA.  Charming Dola with her charming  personality charmed the audience by beautifully playing the role of a mother opposite to Juju as her illegitimate husband. Attractive and handsome Willy played the role of the son very adroitly. And Pascoal Rodrigues excellently played the role of a rejected husband.

The comedy part was very ably handled by all the ace comedians namely, Agostinho, Selvy and Jannet. Agostinho played a very good “captain’s inning” which gave a very philosophical touch to the whole Tiatro.

The Side Show songs, Pascoal Rodrigues solo, Benny de Aldona’s both solos, Selvy’s one comedy solo, the trio of Willy-Juju & Jannet’s husband, the duo of Dola and Jannet were worth admiring.

Well done Com. Agostinho and his troupe including the musicians that included Baba Eden the 14 year son of Com. Agostinho, who played the Trumpet beautifully.
